Description
Ms. S, 40 years old, suddenly lost a manager at work in October 2022. It was impossible to find a replacement within a short period of time and she was the only employee who could be considered for the position.
However, this was the last thing she wanted:
High responsibility, massive overtime, scapegoat for the business level, various risks, etc. - None of this was for her and could not be compensated by a financial incentive.
However, as this position had to be filled due to legal regulations and none of her colleagues had the necessary qualifications, she agreed with a very bad feeling to take on the position for a maximum of six months.
In the first few months, everything went surprisingly well and she only had severe neck pain again and again because she had to cope with one difficult situation after another and her worries about not being able to cope with all the new management tasks and challenges were thus repeatedly resolved (“intellectual self-esteem collapse”, concerning the cervical spine).
Ms S actually agreed to take on the temporary management position for a further 3 months, as a new employee had been hired in the meantime who would take over the management position in August 2023.
And then, in the last few months of her management time, things got “really bad”: there was an extreme overload in the entire department due to various sickness-related absences and a major reorganization with an extreme increase in the workload at the same time.
When things could hardly get any worse, her supervisor was suddenly absent for weeks due to injury and, to make matters worse, Ms. S had to take over all of his tasks, even though she had not been trained by him to do so (including a lack of access authorizations to be able to complete the time-critical tasks quickly enough).
The company was threatening to collapse and she was in the middle of the crisis meetings. She had to deal with various annoyances that had gone wrong during the time of her predecessors. There were suddenly major disputes, resentment and mutual accusations within the team. Ms. S did everything she could to solve the problems that arose from all sides and defuse the situation. She could no longer sleep because of the pressure and had no time for family, friends or even hobbies.
And beside all this, as a 5BN expert she was of course absolutely aware that she had been highly conflict-active for months now, so the fear of possible serious symptoms following the resolution of the stress became ever greater.
We analyzed the situation together and suspected, among other things, that she would suffer severe neck pain in the future after the situation was resolved in August 2023, when she would be out of the management position again - along with other severe symptoms of an unknown nature, as there were certainly also various territorial or digestive issues at work.
However, Ms. S saw no way of escaping the situation. Of course, she could have taken more “ sick days ”, but this would have had other catastrophic consequences, which would have posed even greater health risks for her as a responsible employee.
So she decided to go through with it and mentally prepared herself for the fact that she would probably experience more severe symptoms afterwards.
Circumstances slowly began to improve at the end of July: The supervisor was back and was able to take over a lot of things. And then in August was the moment Ms. S had been looking forward for so long: she was finally able to hand over the management position to her new colleague and return to her old job again! She had actually survived the stressful time with all its challenges and even averted the worst for her team and the company. She was very proud of herself and, above all, very, very relieved - and that was the moment of conflict resolution.
In fact, there was no pain in her neck now, because she was able to resolve this SBS again and again during this time and reduce the mass of conflict.
What followed, was 6 months of massive nausea occurring almost daily for hours. In her case, the SBS of the small curvature of the stomach, which belongs to the ectoderm and where a stomach ulcer probably formed during this time, had been active for most of the time. The content of the conflict here was clearly the territorial conflict - i.e. “things are not going as they should in my territory = at work”.
And now in the conflict-resolved phase, this tissue breakdown was rebuilt with swelling and hypersensitivity.
The nausea was not always intense, but especially after eating - we suspect that it had to do with the more and less stomach acid, and that the nausea was always particularly strong when the mucous membrane was irritated even more by food and acid. It was often particularly bad at night.
When it didn't get better after four months, Mrs. S decided to have a gastroscopy. However, nothing was actually visible at the time, so the diagnosis was simply “irritable stomach”.
Shortly afterwards, it slowly started to get better and the nausea only occurred at longer and longer intervals and in a weaker form or shorter duration.
The permanent condition has now disappeared in May 2024. However, small recurrences still occur from time to time:
Whenever she gets angry at work about the new supervisor who took over the position in August, the nausea reappears after it has been resolved.
=> So this was already a repeated control for the course of this SBS, coupled with this territorial anger situation about the supervisor's position at work.
